Wilmington City Council Issues Statement on Recent Hate Crime in the 7th District
Wilmington, DE (August 24, 2017) Wilmington City Council issued the following statement in response to Wednesday’s hate crime incident in Woodlawn:
“Yesterday’s incident of hate, intimidation, and vandalism was truly reprehensible. Wilmington City Council stands with residents across our City, State, and nation to denounce and repudiate this hate crime and others like it.
Wednesday’s cowardly act of racism and intolerance, which we have seen most recently in cities like Charlottesville, does not reflect who we are as Wilmingtonians or Americans. There is simply no place for such acts of hatred and incidents like this should not be taken lightly.
One of Wilmington’s most treasured and valued assets is the diversity of our residents and the various cultures and backgrounds that are woven into the fabric of our City. We must reject these actions of hate in no uncertain terms; find those responsible and hold them accountable; and stand united against hate.”
