Black Restaurant Week to Premier in Wilmington!

Wilmington, DE – The Wilmington City Council, in partnership with the Office of Economic Development, is hosting the city’s first Black Restaurant Week (BRW) – an amazing opportunity to showcase the diversity and richness of Black culinary culture while supporting local Wilmington businesses. This will be an unforgettable experience that showcases the incredible contributions of Black-owned restaurants to our community. BRW is intended to be unique and inclusive. This event will involve Black owned-food service providers, including take-out restaurants, food vendors, casual dining, food trucks, as well as fine dining facilities. It will highlight the diversity and richness of Black culinary culture while supporting local Wilmington businesses.
Wilmington’s BRW is strategically aligned with Wilmington HBCU Week, which is also taking place from September 17 through September 24. During this time, thousands of regional and local individuals will be participating in events, which will provide an excellent opportunity for food service businesses to gain widespread exposure and recognition within the community.
BRW is in the outreach stage and actively seeking to connect with exceptional Black-owned food service providers. This event will work collaboratively and engage directly with local restauranteurs to gain their feedback on how this event can support long-term growth and attract new patrons.
For this inaugural event, which is being coordinated by Flux Creative Consulting, there will be multiple ways for stakeholders to engage in BRW. Restaurant owners can offer a BRW special on their menus that will be advertised through various channels, register to participate in Food Vendor Events happening alongside HBCU Week events, or elect to have their business listed on the BRW Passport, which rewards patrons for visiting multiple participating establishments during the Week. Residents and visitors in Wilmington can take part by attending special BRW events, purchasing BRW menu items, or dining out at restaurants listed on the BRW Passport.
According to Council President Trippi Congo, who introduced the idea of having a BRW to his colleagues late last year, “Our city has had some tough times these past few years. I’m happy to see that Wilmington is making a comeback, and Black Restaurant Week is a way to make sure that Black restaurant owners are a part of that growth.”
