ALBERT “AL” MILLS
Council Member At-Large
Albert “Al” Mills was appointed by the full body of council on March 3, 2022, with a vote of 10-yes and 2-absent, to fill an At-Large vacancy left by former Councilwoman Rysheema Dixon.
Councilmember Mills is a passionate community based licensed master social worker deeply rooted in the juvenile justice system. He has designed and led organizations that provide evidence-based services for delinquent youth and their families.
As a therapist, Mills served the County Multisystemic Therapy Services for New Castle County Delaware. He is also a certified A.R.T. therapist and takes pride in his efforts to utilize art as a tool for foundational change in youth, families, communities and our society.
Professionally, Mills is the Co-founder of G.O.A.L.S, and S.Y.A.-Tutoring and Mentoring Programs in Wilmington. He is also a decorated ARMY Veteran who served proudly in Iraq and speaks openly about his struggles with PTSD, as a result of the war.
Councilmember Mills is also the writing instructor for the Interfaith veterans group based in Wilmington and widely known for his role with his twin brother State Representative Nnamdi O. Chukwuocha as The Twin Poets. In 2015, former Governor Jack Markell appointed the Twin Poets as 17th Poets Laureate of the State of Delaware.
Councilmember Mills is an avid reader who loves journaling and collecting old books of poetry.
