FREE Financial Literacy/Money Management Presentation Scheduled for Wednesday, July 20 at Noon

The session at the Redding City/County Building will focus on how credit works, obtaining credit and keeping a healthy credit report in place

Third District Council Member Darius Brown, a member of Wilmington City Council’s Economic Development Committee, today announced another in a series of free monthly presentations to promote financial literacy and provide citizens with ways to better manage their money.

The Delaware Financial Literacy Institute’s (DFLI) The Money School will offer a free presentation by Renaldo Epps, of the Renaldo Epps Professional Consulting Group, entitled Beginner’s Credit Education 101, on Wednesday, July 20 beginning at Noon in the 3rd floor conference room at the Redding City/County Building at 800 North French Street.

According to Epps, as a consumer, you should already know that your credit score plays a significant role in your financial well-being. Epps said low credit scores may prevent you from obtaining needed credit such as a mortgage, school or car loan, or they may cost you a great deal of money in higher interest payments on loans, credit cards and insurance. Conversely, he said the higher your credit score the better your chances are of obtaining credit and loans at the best possible interest rates. If you have been denied credit, would like to lower your interest rates, or would simply like to remove inaccurate information from your credit reports, Epps urges citizens to attend the class to help with their understanding of the credit world.

Council Member Brown said sound money management can help people achieve their financial independence. He wants citizens take control of their own finances and manage their money properly.

The Money School offers FREE financial education classes and financial literacy resources to Delawareans throughout the year. Participants gain a better understanding of the consumer marketplace and the current economic environment while learning skills to take charge of their financial situations, plan for the future and avoid financial pitfalls. Classes include managing money, getting out of debt, improving credit, retirement planning, investing, small business development and more.
